Questions you may have?
What is a 3D printed lithophane (light photo) and what makes it different from a regular photo?
A 3D printed object is made up of hundreds or even thousands of very thin layers of plastic stacked and fused together. The plastic melts, layers are added on top of each other, and as it cools, the layers stick together to form a solid shape.
A lithophane, or "light photo," is a special type of 3D-printed object that turns a photo into a 3D image. It works by varying the thickness of each layer to create lighter and darker parts of the photo. The thicker parts represent darker areas, while the thinner parts represent lighter areas. When you shine light behind the lithophane, the image appears. Lithophanes are unique because they create a 3D image by varying thickness to show light and dark areas. When light shines from behind, thinner parts appear lighter and thicker parts darker, adding depth and a glowing effect that standard photos don’t have. Making these objects takes hours because they need a high level of detail to show the photo accurately.
